Summer Pool Maintenance

January 15, 2019 By fencingsolutions

Keeping your pool looking its best all summer doesn’t have to be hard work. With some simple weekly maintenance, your pool will be ready to swim in whenever the heat hits. Keep your pool clean and ensure the chemical levels are properly balanced with these simple tips.

Top Summer Pool Maintenance Tips

Balance The Water

Poor water should be properly maintained all year round to ensure the safety of swimmers, as well as to keep the interior of your pool protected. There are 5 key elements to maintaining water quality in a swimming pool:

  • pH level
  • total alkalinity (TA)
  • calcium hardness
  • filtration
  • chlorination

A pool’s PH should be between 7 and 7.6, while the levels of chlorine will depend on a number of factors including what type of pump system you have, filtration, water level and amount of debris.  More vigilance is needed in summer as high temperatures can cause evaporation and lead to water levels falling below the skimmer box.

Winter Fence Maintenance

July 2, 2018 By fencingsolutions

While winter in Cairns isn’t as cold as winter in the southern parts of Australia, temperatures are still milder, and the humidity drops. Combine this with low rainfall and you have the perfect weather conditions to get out in the garden and carry out your winter fence maintenance.

Fence Maintenance Tips For Winter

A few simple checks and minor touch-ups will keep your fence in top condition for the year ahead.

  • Cut back overhanging tree limbs and shrubbery. Rake up leaves to prevent them piling up around your fence (leaves = moisture).
  • Try not to have things leaning on your fence (ladders, toys and yard equipment for example) as these can cause unnecessary strain and areas of weakness.
  • Touch up minor scratches with paint where required.
  • Complete repairs to fence panels and posts while the weather is dry.

Maintenance For Colorbond Fences

One of the best features of Colorbond fencing is that it is low maintenance. However, there are a few minor tasks you should perform to ensure it stays looking its best

  • Hose down your fence to remove cobwebs and built up dirt, soil and salt.
  • Check the perimeter of your fence to make sure there aren’t any areas of rust or other damage.
  • Check the base of your fence to ensure soil isn’t building up. This is the most important part of Colorbond fence maintenance you can perform. Soil needs to be kept approx 20 mm below the rails to prevent corrosion.
  • Don’t use fertilisers or weed sprays around your Colorbond Fence.

What Is a Pool Safety Inspection?

January 22, 2018 By fencingsolutions

In Australia, it is mandatory for homeowners to build a fence around their swimming pool. This is to prevent accidental drownings, which is one of the leading causes of death among young children in the country. However, building a fence is not enough. It’s also important for swimming pools to pass safety inspections. For those who are asking, “What is a pool safety inspection?” here are important things you should know.

Pool Safety Inspectors

Pool safety inspections are carried out by pool safety inspectors, whose role is to inspect pools to determine if they comply with Australian safety standards. If the pool is compliant, the homeowner will receive a pool safety certificate from the inspector. Otherwise, the inspector will issue a nonconformity notice unless:

  • The inspector conducts a second inspection of the pool within two days after the initial inspection and is satisfied with the results; or
  • The owner and the pool safety inspector agree that the latter will conduct minor repairs within 20 business days of the original inspection date.

How Do I Find A Pool Safety Inspector?

So How Do I Find A Pool Safety Inspector? To find a pool safety inspector, you can search for one online. You can choose from a list of certified inspectors in your area provided by the local government, or if you’re looking for a specific inspector, you can use their name, business name or licence number as keywords during your online search.

Pool safety inspectors can provide their services on a consultancy basis for those who simply require advice. They also conduct a full inspection and issue a certificate or non-conformity notice. Some inspectors can also carry out minor repairs, including adjusting or replacing a latch, or striking and removing climbable objects around the pool.

Why You Need an Automatic Gate

November 1, 2017 By fencingsolutions

Privacy is important to every family. Therefore, when choosing a gate, you might want to consider an automatic gate. As well as ensuring your family’s privacy, gate automation provides you with a whole range of other benefits. Here’s why it makes good sense to get an automatic gate.

Automatic Gates Improve Safety

With an automatic gate, you have total control over the entrance and exit points of your home. This allows you to create boundaries for your pets and children and prevent them from leaving your property without your knowledge. By installing an automatic gate, therefore, you can greatly improve the safety and security of not only your property but also those of your loved ones.

An Automatic Gate is Convenient

Automatic gates provide you with the convenience of not having to get out of your car and manually open the gate to get inside your home. This feature is helpful when it is raining hard or when the weather is not particularly good. It is also a plus if you simply can’t be bothered to get out of your car and open your gate!

Prevent Unauthorised Vehicles Entering Your Property

Some people use others’ driveways to make a U-turn or to have enough space so they can manoeuvre their vehicle and go the other way. With an automatic gate, you can prevent these vehicles from using your driveway in such a manner. Apart from unauthorised vehicles, you can also deter your neighbours’ pets from entering your property.

Improve The Value Of Your Home

An automatic gate makes an excellent addition to your home. Not only do they improve the aesthetic appeal of residential properties, but self closing gates also increase their value. This can be very useful for you if you have plans to sell your home in the near future.

Colorbond Fencing Advantages

July 12, 2017 By fencingsolutions

Colorbond Roofing is a common site in Cairns and indeed the rest of Australia. Generally, when people think of Colorbond they think of roofs. However, along with roofs, other Colorbond products are a feature of nearly every home in Australia. Consider these facts from Bluescope Steel:

  • Nearly half of all new homes in Australia have Colorbond Roofs.
  • More than 9 out of 10  new homes feature Colorbond fences, gutters, fascia, sheds, cubby houses, carports, water tanks and letterboxes
  • 80 percent of all Australian gutters and fascias are made from Colorbond.

So, it’s no wonder that Colorbond Fencing is one of our most popular products. But what exactly is it about Colorbond that makes it such a popular choice?

Colorbond Fencing will Last

When you invest money into improving your home, you want to get a good return. When it comes to fencing, this means a fence that will be structurally sound and continue to look good for a long time. Colorbond fencing does exactly this. Firstly, there are 14 contemporary colours to choose from and you can also personalise your fence with lattice and open slat tops. You can even alternate the colours of your posts and panels for an on-trend look. Most importantly, Colorbond fencing is rust proof, fireproof, termite-proof and only requires an occasional light hose to keep it looking good.

Installing Colorbond Fencing in Cairns

Colorbond Fencing looks good on both sides of the fence and you won’t have any gaps, loose palings or visible footholds. However, it is advisable to have your Colorbond Fencing professionally installed to ensure it is done properly. Although Colorbond fencing is easy to install, if you aren’t familiar with modular systems you may be left with some unsightly gaps. Booking a professional Cairns fencing company will also help you avoid purchasing an imitation product. You want to make sure your Colorbond fencing is genuine BlueScope Steel so you are protected by the Bluescope warranty and you can be confident your fence will last.

Colorbond fencing in Cairns is one of the most popular choices for securing the boundaries of your property. Contact Fencing Solutions today for a free measure and quote.
